What services does Cindy provide for high school seniors and transfer students?
- Review and evaluate transcript and test scores;
- Provide advice and suggestions regarding testing dates and prep;
- Compile and finalize a list of college choices: safety, mid-level, and reach schools;
- Review early action and early decision options;
- Put together a useful “brag sheet” or student resumé of activities;
- Assist in college essay preparation/personal statements (both long and short essays). Work on style, tone, editing, topic selection and format;
- Establish a timeline for completing college applications;
- Share myths and truths about what occurs on a real admission committee;
- Advise parents on their role in the college admission process;
- Assist with ideas and protocol on how to approach teachers for letters of recommendation;
- Suggest and advise on how to prepare for a college interview and mock interview session if needed;
- Suggest ways to plan a productive college visit;
- Final application review;
- Answer any other issues or concerns you may have in this life milestone process
- Includes unlimited sessions, emails, phone calls, q & a.
The high school senior and transfer student package generally ranges in meeting time anywhere from 10-20 hours during this process. Ideally, I try to meet students once per week in the summer after junior year ends and at least every other week during the fall semester of senior year in the evening or day if their schedule permits. When school begins, much correspondence also happens via fax, email and phone as opposed to office meetings. After applications are filed, I am available for any follow up, wait list, or decision-making questions or concerns. I am reachable via email, fax and phone for unlimited correspondence and consultation with the student and parent(s).
Senior Package (begins any time after junior year is completed) –
Includes unlimited hours, email correspondence, calls, questions, meetings and services described above.
8th Grade Visit:
- Discuss high school readiness, class selection and advising, extracurricular and summer experience discussion,
- Teach steps to high school success as well as teacher relationship overview;
- Answer all questions and concerns
Students who participate in this meeting have priority registration for private counseling services beginning the summer before the senior year (senior package).
Freshman and Sophomore Visit
Freshmen/Sophomores include:
- All of the above list plus:
- Plan and select high school classes and coursework, extracurricular activities, summer activities.
- Meet with parents/student once in the fall or spring of freshman and sophomore year;
Students who participate in this meeting have priority registration for private counseling services beginning the summer before the senior year (senior package).
Junior Visit
Services provided for Junior Session may also include:
- Evaluate transcript and test scores and begin to discuss college goals;
- Discuss and determine a plan for junior year courses and grades as well as senior year;
- Discuss test-taking, summer options, volunteer work,
- Advise on teacher rec.
- Advise and overview on interview process and college visits
- Advise on extracurricular activities
- Answer all other questions pertaining to the admissions process.
